I hate it when a celeb comes out and there’s this backlash of straight people who say “I don’t care if they’re gay, why do we have to keep hearing about who’s gay, i don’t care.”
Let me tell you why.
V I S I B I L I T Y.
Our straight identified society does not view LGBTQ (and every other label under the rainbow) people as equal.
Attempting to SILENCE marginalized groups is a way to KEEP people oppressed. If people don’t speak up about it, then others can continue to go on pretending it doesn’t exist.
But it DOES exist.
And guess what? IT’S NOT GOING AWAY.
We are tired of being silenced, tired of being oppressed, and tired of not having equal opportunities and rights.
It is important for queer people to continue to come out so that the homophobic part of our society is forced to see who we are and that we are not a disease that needs wiped out.
ALL humans deserve the same opportunities and rights!
You’re not “cool” or an “ally” to gay people because you are now “so progressive” that you can get “sick of” hearing about someone coming out and bitch about it online.
It actually means the OPPOSITE.
So when a celeb comes out don’t fucking moan “Oh god, not again, here we go having to hear about yet ANOTHER person being gay…” just shut up and try to understand that this is another step forward in contributing to normalizing the view on what a gay person looks like.
I’m gay and tired of celebs sexualities being a big deal. Cool, you like fucking people of the same sex, I really don’t...
